The third annual Fisch Camp, held May 16 at the Greene County Recreation Department, was a big success, with more than 125 kids gathered for a day of baseball, learning, and fun.
With ideal weather and an incredible group of former MLB players in attendance, the day was filled with instruction, encouragement, autographs, photos, and memories that the young players will carry with them for years to come.
Instructors participating in this year’s camp included camp host Mike Fischlin, Bruce Benedict, J.D. Drew, Stephen Drew, Nick Swisher, Jeff Blauser, Tim Drew, Kevin Millwood, Glenn Hubbard, and Jeff Treadway.
The event also featured special opening moments as Amanda Stover, representing OPAS, performed the National Anthem, followed by Rick Brian throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.
Founded by former MLB player Fischlin, Fisch Camp was created from his vision of giving back to young athletes and creating opportunities for kids to learn the game from those who have played it at the highest level. That vision continues to grow each year as the camp brings together players, families, volunteers, and the community for a special day centered around baseball and mentorship.
Greene County Recreation Director Pete O’Neal expressed his appreciation to Fischlin and the Fisch Camp Board for allowing the Greene Rec Department to serve as the camp’s host location.
With another successful year in the books, Fisch Camp continues to make a lasting impact by not only building better young ballplayers, but also building confidence, character, and community connections that extend far beyond the playing field.
