The Greene County track and field teams wrapped up the 2026 season Monday in Athens at the GHSA Class A Division II state meet, closing out the year with several strong individual performances and relay finishes against some of the top competition in the state.
Junior Maleah Jarrells led the way for the Lady Tigers with an impressive all-around performance across three events. Jarrells placed fourth in the girls’ high jump, finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, and added a seventh-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles to cap one of the top individual showings of the meet for Greene County.
Junior Jakayla Burdette also represented the Lady Tigers in the field events, placing 11th in the girls’ discus after competing against a deep field of throwers.
On the boys’ side, junior Braylen Hurt earned an eighth-place finish in the high jump, while junior Klemonta Riley turned in one of Greene County’s best performances of the day with a runner-up finish in the boys’ 200-meter hurdles. Riley’s second-place showing highlighted a strong postseason run and gave the Tigers a spot on the podium at the state meet.
Kayden Monford also competed in the boys’ discus throw, placing 16th overall.
Greene County’s relay teams added to the strong finish in Athens. The boys’ 4x100-meter relay team of Melvin Lawrence, Denim Harris, Clifford Springer, and Riley placed 15th overall after battling through a competitive sprint field.
The Tigers’ boys’ 4x400-meter relay team of Springer, Hurt, Dontriel Grable, and Riley closed out the meet with one of Greene County’s top relay performances of the season, finishing fifth overall while posting the team’s fastest time of the year.
Greene County head coach James Miller praised his athletes' performances following the meet.
“Ms. Jarrells, she can say that she had a great day in high jump, 100 hurdles, and 300 hurdles,” Miller said. “Klemonta ran really well in the 200 meters, placing second in the state. The 4x400 team ran the fastest time of the season.”
As a team, the Lady Tigers finished 24th out of 39 teams, while the boys placed 20th, bringing a competitive, hard-fought 2026 season to a close in Athens.
