More than 130 golfers gathered on April 13 for a day of competition and community impact at the annual “Teeing Up for Kids” Golf Tournament, an event focused on raising support for youth development programs.
Held under clear skies and a shared sense of purpose, the tournament brought together local leaders, sponsors, volunteers, and participants, all committed to investing in the next generation. Organizers said the event highlighted the power of community collaboration in creating meaningful opportunities for young people.
The day opened with remarks from organizers Stacy McClendon and Larry Vaughan, who welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of giving back.
“Thank you to our donors, sponsors, golfers, and volunteers. Your support means everything to our kids,” McClendon said. “Now let’s get out there, hit some birdies, maybe a hole-in-one, and have some fun for a great cause.”
McClendon thanked donors and volunteers for their continued support, encouraging golfers to enjoy the day while contributing to a larger cause. Vaughan oversaw tournament logistics, ensuring a smooth experience for attendees.
Event leaders, including Norine Lassa, Jere Brady, Bari Love, and Annettee O’Bannon, were recognized for their roles in planning and executing the tournament. Organizers credited their leadership with helping transform the outing into a memorable and impactful event.
Community partners also played a key role. Golden Pantry provided beverages and refreshments for players and volunteers, while Cafe 44 served lunch. The day concluded with dinner from Big Baby Barbecue, offering participants a chance to unwind and reflect on the event’s purpose.
On the course, golfers competed in a range of contests, including longest drive and closest-to-the-pin challenges. Among the top finishers were David Burbach, who took first place, followed by Jerry Stapp in second and Penny Ferretti in third. Individual contest winners were also recognized for standout performances.
While competition was central to the day, organizers stressed that the tournament’s impact extended far beyond the leaderboard. Proceeds from the event will support programs focused on education, mentorship, and character development for local youth.
The evening program underscored that mission. Approximately 45 young participants welcomed guests during a “Blue Carpet” reception, demonstrating leadership and confidence as they engaged with attendees. Several youth speakers, including program alumni and current participants, shared personal stories about how community support has shaped their lives.
Organizers said the youth presentations served as a powerful reminder of the event’s purpose: creating pathways for future success.
“We sincerely appreciate opportunities like this that bring our community together while supporting programs that positively impact young people,” organizers said in a statement.
With strong turnout and community backing, organizers expressed optimism about the future of the tournament and its continued role in supporting youth initiatives.
