Georgia-Pacific Madison unlocks educational opportunities at MCHS

Georgia-Pacific Madison Plywood has presented Morgan County High School with a $13,000 donation to support multiple departments within the school’s Career Academy and provide scholarships for students continuing their technical education.

Of the total contribution, $6,000 will support the forestry, ag-mechanics, and engineering programs, as well as sponsor the STEM Dogs robotics team. Additionally, three Morgan County High School seniors will each receive a $1,500 scholarship to further their education at a school within the Technical College System of Georgia.

“Georgia-Pacific Madison Plywood is committed to educating the next generation,” said Wesley Stone, Madison Plant Manager, in a written statement. “Partnering with Morgan County High School is a privilege, and together we are helping prepare a skilled, future-ready workforce for our community.”

As part of its ongoing workforce development efforts, Georgia-Pacific will again bring a technical careers initiative to the high school through the Be Pro Be Proud simulator truck. The mobile experience offers students the opportunity to engage in 20 professional skill simulations, helping broaden their understanding of career opportunities in high-demand technical fields.

The Career Academy Director, Jennifer Butler, said, “What means the most to us is that GeorgiaPacific sees our students and their potential, their talent, and the futures they’re building. Their generosity shows they truly understand our wall-to-wall College and Career academy model and how every program plays a part in shaping who our students become. By supporting multiple pathways and programs, they’re not just giving to a school… they’re investing in our students’ dreams and in the community they’ll grow up to lead.”

For the first time, Georgia-Pacific Madison Plywood will also serve as a sponsor of the CTAE Academy Awards Program, which recognizes Morgan County’s top students in career and technical education. Additionally, the donation allows the company to maintain its status as an Elite-level sponsor of Morgan County High School athletics.
