Get ready for laughter, chaos, and theatrical mayhem as The Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts (PAPA) presents “Play On!” opening April 16 at The Plaza Arts Center in downtown Eatonton.
“Play On!” is a fast-paced, side-splitting comedy by Rick Abbot that follows a community theatre group attempting to put on a play despite constant rewrites from an overbearing playwright. This cast can’t remember lines, backstage mishaps, or opening-night disasters.
What starts as a routine rehearsal soon spirals into a full-blown comedic catastrophe that celebrates the unpredictable magic of live theatre.
“This show is a love letter to everyone who’s ever been involved in a school, community, or professional production,” The Plaza’s marketing director, Taylor Surman, said. “It captures all the things that make theater wonderful, such as the camaraderie, the anticipation, and the unexpected surprises. Audiences are going to have as much fun watching ‘Play On!’ as the cast has putting it on.”
The production features a talented local cast starring Chasen Crawford, Phil Armstrong, Zelly Washington, Kathy Wardlaw, Jackie Hill, Michelle Saarela, Diane Shinneman, Carol Grant, Ed Kercado, and Karen Williamson. And making his directorial debut is Brent Mero alongside veteran director Dennis McClain.
“Play On!” is scheduled for 7 p.m. on April 16, 18, 24, and 25; with 3 p.m. matinees on April 19 and 26. All tickets to “Play On!” are $25 each and can be purchased at plazacenter.org or by calling The Plaza at 706-923-1655.
