Dear Editor,
In last week’s editorial, “Our country can be destroyed,” L.O. Cox followed a tired script: blaming every national woe on a Democratic “conspiracy.” But simple logic collapses that narrative. If Democrats had truly “rigged” the system, wouldn’t they have used that apparatus to win the 2024 election while they actually held the keys to the White House?
We don’t need to fear a “shadow plot” to destroy the country; the destabilization is happening right before our eyes in broad daylight. President Trump has arbitrarily sentenced Americans to peak oil prices for years to come by starting a war with Iran. He has suffocated the world’s oil supply, forcing us all to “pay, baby, pay,” while our allies (left in the dark) rightfully wonder why they should rescue a situation they didn’t start.
The hypocrisy is staggering. The administration is eager to put “boots on the ground” in Iran (though certainly not Barron’s boots), yet his party fails to fund the skilled TSA agents needed to protect our own airports. We are poking a known sponsor of terrorism while weakening our defenses at home.
Perhaps the only silver lining is that Trump’s erratic extremes are finally pushing more Americans toward the center. L.O. Cox is right that “our country can be destroyed,” but it won’t be by the “shadows” — it will be by the policies Trump loyalists still refuse to acknowledge. They are more than welcome in the middle once they do.
