Lake Oconee Academy’s varsity boys and girls tennis teams are nearing the conclusion of their 2026 seasons, with both squads aiming for another deep postseason run.
The Titans and Lady Titans will wrap up their regular season on April 2 with a home matchup against Stratford Academy, a match that could set the tone heading into state playoffs.
Head coach Tom Imhof praised the girls’ team for their strong play this season, particularly in singles.
“We’re playing really well together right now, especially our singles players,” Imhof said.
Junior Elizabeth Moore leads the team at No. 1 singles, followed by sophomore Emi Mokan at No. 2, while junior Jamie Beatty has successfully transitioned from doubles to singles this season.
Imhof noted that the Lady Titans have won the majority of their matches and are poised to capture their fifth consecutive region title.
Coming off a successful spring break, the Lady Titans are expected to enter state playoffs as the No. 1 seed in their bracket.
That positioning would give them a first-round bye and a home Sweet 16 match, providing a strong advantage as they aim to replicate — or surpass — their Final Four appearance from last season.
“The girls are definitely hungry and want to get back to at least the Final Four,” Imhof said.
The boys’ team has faced more challenges this season.
Early on, a smaller roster forced the team to forfeit some individual matches, but they now compete with a full roster of seven players, including five returning seniors. Imhof says the team is still experimenting with lineups and doubles combinations to ensure optimal performance in the postseason.
Christian Moore anchors the lineup at No. 1 singles, with Major Mercer at No. 2 singles. Garrett Griffin and Henry Hines make up the No. 1 doubles team.
“We’re experimenting a lot with singles and doubles partners and different positions,” Imhof said. “Hopefully by the state tournament, we’ll have the lineup tweaked to perform at the highest level.”
Both the boys’ and girls’ teams reached the Final Four in last year’s state playoffs, and Imhof hopes history repeats itself.
“For the boys, it’s up to them. It’s in the air, depending on their dedication over the next month, if they can pull it all together,” he said.
With region titles nearly locked and state playoffs on the horizon, Lake Oconee Academy’s tennis teams are positioned for what could be another memorable postseason.
“This week, we’re finishing up our region play, and I would say probably 99% that both girls and boys will be region champs once again,” Imhof said. “If they repeat, the girls will have won the region for five years in a row, and the boys four out of the last five.”
