Dear Editor,
Renee Good and her spouse’s tactics for protesting ICE in Minneapolis were passionate, but unsafe. Confronting armed, masked men of any sort is too dangerous for any civilian in these times. Yet, their actions did not warrant an on-site execution.
Numerous camera angles have confirmed that the ICE agent who murdered Renee circled her SUV on foot while recording her with his cell phone. At the moment Renee turned her wheel and hit the gas to leave the situation, the agent was standing off to the side of her front left quarter panel.
Based on camera evidence, he was in no life-threatening danger.
In fact, Section 1-16.000 of the Department of Justice Policy on Use of Force clearly describes that everything this masked ICE agent did was against policy.
His machismo, hidden behind a mask, killed Renee Good.
You do not have to like Renee, nor agree with her right to protest or what she was protesting, to objectively understand this: she should still be alive. In jail? Maybe. On trial? Who knows. Dead? No.
Can we not learn from history the terror inflicted by men hiding behind masks and hoods? Are our nation’s so-called “peacekeepers” so ashamed of their mission that they must conceal their faces? This administration’s Temu of an immigration enforcement force has emboldened, and armed, some real losers. Yet the administration leaps to their defense and ignores a citizen’s right to protest and due process. This tells us everything we need to know about this administration and what we’re in for just one year into this abysmal term.
