Two Conyers men face multiple charges after one of them crossed paths with Morgan County Investigator Chad Lanier at a local auto parts store.
Louis Taylor Miles, 34, and Cordarly Murphy, 38, are both being charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and theft by receiving stolen property.
According to reports, Miles walked into the Advanced Auto Parts store on Eatonton Road on Oct. 29 and later left in a red Dodge Charger with Cordarly Murphy, an employee of the store.
Lanier was inside the store and noticed the odor of marijuana coming from Miles as he passed.
Lanier contacted Sgt. Stacey Eaton of the Madison Police Department about the dark-tinted windows on the car and possible drug violations.
Eaton pulled the Charger over on the westbound ramp to I-20 at Hwy 441, and questioned the driver, later identified as Miles, about the tint and marijuana smell. Lanier was also on hand for the traffic stop.
Miles told Eaton that he had smoked marijuana, and the joint was on top of the ashtray cup.
The passenger, later identified as Murphy, had a large bag in his left pants pocket, which was visible from outside the vehicle, according to the report.
When Murphy exited the vehicle, Eaton saw a small bag of marijuana on the floorboard that later weighed 2 grams with packaging. The bag of marijuana Murphy had in his pocket weighed 18.4 grams with packaging.
A probable cause search of the vehicle was then executed. Bags of methamphetamine weighing more than 2 ounces were found in the center console.
Four large bags of marijuana later weighed 51.2 grams (almost 2 ounces) with packaging. A green scale was also in one of the bags, and rolling papers were located by the gear shifter.
Eaton also located a green and black DB9 handgun under the passenger’s side that was listed as stolen out of Atlanta.
Both individuals came back as convicted felons and were not allowed to possess a firearm.
The Charger was towed to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office impound lot by Maurice Towing.
Eaton also issued a citation to Miles for the illegally tinted windows. Both Miles and Murphy were transported to the Morgan County Jail without incident.
