A Greensboro woman was arrested on a charge of child neglect on Oct. 18 after her 2-year-old son was found wandering alone and unsupervised for the second time in a week.
No charges were filed after the first incident, but deputies arrested Ambria Zhane Wright on a cruelty to children/child neglect charge after the second.
According to reports, Deputy Josh Corwin was dispatched to 1416 Bowden Pond Rd. Oct. 11 regarding a missing child. He met with Wright, who told him she was asleep in her home when the 2-year-old was let out by one of her other children, who had gone outside to play.
Corwin said he searched the house and the surrounding area but was unable to locate the boy.
However, a neighbor soon arrived at the residence with the child. The neighbor said he was working in his shop when he heard the child crying in his pasture. He then found the child, who had apparently traveled through the woods for roughly a quarter mile before he was found. He was returned to his mother without further incident.
The following Saturday, Oct. 18, Deputy Carlo Miller was dispatched to Sibley School Road regarding a 2-year-old walking alone in the roadway without supervision, approximately a half mile from his residence at 1416 Bowden Pond Rd.
Reports noted that it was the second time the toddler had been found alone without supervision.
The woman who found the child said she came upon the 2-year-old while driving down Sibley School Road. She noticed him walking down the roadway with his two dogs, barefoot, wearing a torn T-shirt and a diaper.
She said she took the toddler from the roadway and informed a friend who called the authorities. The woman said she knew where the child lived because a similar incident had occurred a couple of weeks before.
Corwin notified DFACS Case Worker Savanah Thorn, who was assigned to the case. Thorn placed the child with his grandmother. The mother told Corwin Ambria that her kids were playing outside and under her supervision, when the 2-year-old darted away, and she did not see where he went.
According to reports, she reported her child missing approximately 45 minutes after the neighbor found him.
According to DFACS, Wright has a pending case through Walton County from March for a similar incident of child neglect.
