A Monroe County man, who got into an altercation with a Madison police officer during the “Tailgate 2025” event held at the Madison Fairgrounds Sept. 27, was arrested on multiple charges.
Joshua J. Robinson, 45, of Forsyth, faces charges of disorderly conduct, obstruction, criminal damage to property, and public intoxication.
According to reports, Detective-Sergeant Andre Johnson was working a detail at the fairgrounds during the concert when he was approached by the event coordinator, who wanted a man escorted from the premises due to his disruptive behavior.
Johnson located Robinson, who was yelling and talking loudly and appeared to be intoxicated. He told Johnson he wasn’t going anywhere, and family members pleaded with Johnson not to arrest Robinson, stating they would calm him down.
Robinson then left with his family members and later extended his hand in apology to Johnson.
About 10 minutes later, a female approached Johnson and told him Robinson had entered the women’s restroom and cursed at her.
When Johnson asked Robinson what happened, he told the officer she was not telling the truth.
When Johnson and Lt. Chuck Elder attempted to arrest Robinson, he resisted and told the officers, “I am not going to jail.”
Johnson brought Robinson to the ground, but he continued to resist and refused to place his hands behind his back.
Security personnel at the event were able to assist with handcuffing Robinson, and he was arrested.
According to the report, minor abrasions were observed on Robinson’s face, and EMS was called to provide medical treatment for Robinson and also for Sgt. Johnson.
When officers attempted to put Robinson into a patrol vehicle, he continued to resist. Elder then entered the car from the other side and pulled Robinson into the back seat, according to the report.
After the doors were closed, Robinson lay on his back and began kicking the rear door with both feet.
Robinson was transported to the Morgan County jail, and initially refused to enter upon arrival.
Jail personnel removed him from the vehicle and escorted him into the facility.
