The Knights of Columbus were at Christ Our King & Savior Catholic Church on Sept. 27, packing up more than 1,000 golf clubs, 11,000 golf balls, bags, and more for Bunkers in Baghdad.
These balls, clubs, bags, and shoes were donated to Bunkers in Baghdad from residents in Greene County and from the Harbor Club Pro Shop and its members.
Bunkers in Baghdad began in 2008 with a simple idea conceived in a small apartment basement by the founder and president, Joe Hanna. Hanna read in a golf magazine that deployed soldiers love to hit golf balls as a way to relieve stress. That day, Hanna thought he could collect and donate golf balls as his way of showing appreciation for military service members overseas.
To date, more than 16 million golf balls and 17 million clubs have been shipped to the military and veterans throughout the USA and the world. Ninety-nine % of the revenue raised by Bunkers in Baghdad goes to those in need.
They are also partnered with Hyflyers, a LIV tour golf team.
The Harbor Club Pro Shop, along with several members of Harbor Club, donated more than 220 golf clubs, golf balls, and seven golf bags to the Knights of Columbus in support of Bunkers in Baghdad.
Also contributing were Mark Gordy, Bobby Walsh, Pete Pruitt, Mark Davis, Bob Lofgren, and Jim Reilly.
