Dear Editor,
A letter to acknowledge Ace Jones’ recent letter concerning the tragic loss of life in Minneapolis.
Surprise, surprise. It was all the gun's fault. I enjoyed his fantastic (his word) account of ‘The Day the Guns Disappeared’. As I began reading the letter, I caught myself singing ‘We’re Off To See The Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz’.
So, the only weapons that exist are only in the hands of the police and military. If that doesn’t scare the hell out of you, an inability to defend your home, loved ones, or invasion from outside forces, knowing the citizenry has no way to protect itself. In reality, our local papers “Crime Report” page would now be many pages long. Now, it’s baseball bats, knives, fireplace pokers, blunt objects, poison, explosives, fire, and let’s not forget fists.
Now I say this because eliminating all the above items, of which I would imagine there are many more, would not go one inch to changing the heart of Man. Not one to rely on my own authority, I defer to a much higher authority.
I take you to the Word of God. New Testament, specifically the book of Romans, chapter one, verses 28 through 31. I won’t spell them out for brevity’s sake, but would hope people just might dust the ‘ol Book off and read for themselves. God has laid out what the unrepentant heart of man consists of and He should know. He lays the very groundwork for the intents of man’s heart. Based on the unerring Word,
I submit, guns or no guns, I stand by my conclusion, or more rightly, His conclusion.
