Nine arrested in Canaan Circle area on variety of charges

GREENE COUNTY

Greene County deputies arrested nine individuals on charges of loitering and prowling Aug. 26 near Canaan Circle. Three of those arrested also face additional charges.

Lt. Patrick Paquette made the arrests after deputies responded to a call referencing a large crowd loitering on the roadway of Canaan Circle, near a convenience store.

According to reports, when Paquette exited his patrol vehicle to make contact with the subjects, he smelled an overwhelming odor of marijuana in the area where the subjects were standing.

Paquette made contact with a subject identified as Jaquauioun Hunter, who told the deputy he had a gun on him.

Paquette found a 9mm pistol with an extended magazine in the front waistband area of Hunter’s pants, but could not find a serial number on it. When he removed the laser that was attached to the bottom of the pistol, he noticed the serial number had been removed from the plate that was attached to the frame. Paquette arrested Hunter, who was charged with loitering and prowling, carrying a concealed weapon, and criminal use of an article with an altered identification.

Paquette then made contact with the following individuals loitering in the roadway and placed them under arrest, including Desmond Michael Dunn, 23, of 2210 Shiloh Rd., Greensboro; Cale Little, 31, of 176 Pea Ridge Rd., Eatonton; Derrick Bernard Mapp Jr., 30, of 1060 Thomas St., Greensboro; Khalid Mathis, 25, of 107 Mohican Dr., Eatonton; Quotarison Reid, 36, of 103 Shoals Pointe, Eatonton; and Octravivs Quavon Shelton, 22, of 1194 Credille Pond Rd., Greensboro.

Deputy Leo Sierra responded to 1340 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in reference to a report of a large crowd loitering, an area less than 1,000 feet from Morningside Apartments, which are designated as public housing.

According to reports, Sierra observed an individual, later identified as Ratrez Brown, wearing a bag across his chest.

According to Sierra, Brown walked up to a black Honda and placed the bag at his feet. When Sierra asked Brown if the bag belonged to him, he said it did not. Due to the strong odor of marijuana emitting from Brown, Sierra conducted a probable cause search of the bag and found over an ounce of marijuana, a plastic bag containing approximately five grams of Oxycodone, and a plastic bag containing a substance believed to be Fentanyl.

Also, inside the bag were numerous clear plastic bags commonly used for the distribution of narcotics.

Brown was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a housing project, and loitering and prowling.

While securing the scene, Sierra located two additional bags of marijuana, each weighing more than an ounce, underneath a white Nissan parked nearby.

Dash camera video from a patrol vehicle showed Treveon Rowland discarding items from his clothing and walking behind the Nissan prior to being directed to return to the black Honda with the rest of the group, according to the report.

Rowland, 30, of 1510 MLK Dr., Greensboro, was charged with possession with the intent to distribute, possession with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a housing project, tampering with evidence, loitering, and prowling.

During a further search of the subjects, Cale Little was found to be in possession of more than $4,000 in cash. When questioned, Little stated that the money was won by playing the slot machines inside the MLK Market store.
