In response to the letter last week by Mr. Giesler, let’s have an expanded assessment of the Biden administration’s accomplishments. Capping insulin costs and Medicare drug costs, restricting junk fees, creating 15 million jobs, a bi-partisan infrastructure bill, and sending aid to Ukraine are some of the achievements that voters are mostly aware of.
Unfortunately, the media has been neglectful in spreading public awareness that Biden has actually increased oil and gas drilling (much to the disappointment of conservationists), reduced the federal deficit from $3.1T in 2020 to $1.7T in 2024, increased police funding, and deployed more border agents.
The price of groceries or gasoline at the pump has many causes, including Federal Reserve monetary policy, post-Covid consumer demand, and corporate appetites. A tight labor market continues to drive up wages, adding to inflation. But we want workers to have a living wage, don’t we? Try living on $15/hour.
As far as the southern border crisis, there was a bipartisan immigration bill that Congressional Republicans helped to draft and then refused to even debate because Donald Trump sent out the word that such a bill would not be in his own political interest in an election year. Biden was forced to deal with the situation by executive order. I’m sorry, but lectures on border security from a Trump supporter at this point are totally disingenuous. The cowardness of those Republican representatives is alarming.
