Carter set an example
With Rosalynn Carter’s passing, Georgia has lost one of its greatest. Today’s politicians, celebrities and influencers are measured in terms of ‘Likes’ and ‘Reposts’.
Carter came from an era where successwas measured in terms of impact. Unlike many previous first ladies, Rosalynn sat in on Cabinet meetings, spoke about what were controversial issues at the time, and represented her husband on trips all over the world.
I sincerely wish today’s politicianswould take more pages from her playbook. Never did we see Rosalynn, or Jimmy, make tabloid headlines, shout nastiness, or speak about one sect of our population as though they were lesser than the rest. The Carters lived their core values and it showed. Was Jimmy’s presidency perfect?
Of course not. And neither has there been any perfect president since.
I hope that we all take a moment to reflect on the classiness and poise exhibited by these two Georgians on the world stage. Please ask yourself: are the people you vote for today exhibiting the same type of grace and kindness as Rosalynn? Are the right people even on the ballot? I dare say the candidates are not living up to this high standard, and in her memory we should do better.
