Dear Editor,
Have you ever seen a well-trained dog? They can sit, stay, heel, and even bark on command. Their owners invest hours conditioning them to respond instantly, and the dog always knows exactly who’s in charge. Unfortunately, we have several well-trained dogs in Georgia politics.
The three leading Republican contenders for Georgia’s closely watched 2026 U.S. Senate race recently announced that they now, finally, support a bill requiring the release of federal files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. U.S. Reps. Buddy Carter and Mike Collins, along with Derek Dooley, shifted their stance only after President Donald Trump abruptly reversed his position on November 16, belatedly backing the measure after having staunchly opposed it.
Meanwhile, Marjorie Taylor Greene broke ranks and drew Trump’s ire. The same dangerous elements her past rhetoric helped empower are now turning on her. Yet without her public demand to release the Epstein files, Trump would likely never have changed course on Sunday.
Georgia is an extraordinary state with tremendous potential. We deserve leaders who are not merely obedient political pets, barking on command. We need representatives who think for themselves and do what’s right, especially when it’s not easy or popular. And we need citizens willing to do the same.
