Dear Editor,
At the end of the year, my wife and I give thanks for our blessings and consider how to improve our lives and the lives of others in the coming year. We then make our New Year’s Resolutions.
Looking at 2025, we see: Tens of millions of Americans facing loss of access to health insurance and health care; Millions needing assistance to feed their families who no longer receive it; More than 100 alleged drug traffickers killed in surprise attacks but with no arrest, trial, or conviction of any offense in a court of law; Attacks launched by the president on a half dozen countries, often without authorization by Congress or even notice to Congress, and threats of new attacks on yet more countries and on, of all places, Greenland; The transfer of vast sums of money from ordinary Americans to the wealthiest people in the country; The loss by American farmers of markets worth billions as a result of presidential actions of questionable legality; Record-breaking high temperatures, storms, fires, floods, the disappearance of glaciers and colossal losses of ice from greenhouse-gas-driven climate change with efforts by the president to increase the use of fossil fuels and end Congressionally mandated efforts to transition to renewable energy; More than four hundred legal actions alleging unconstitutional and illegal actions by the president and federal agencies, including actions by ICE agents, resulting in hundreds of judgements and judicial orders against them; We have had no difficulty in deciding on our New Year’s Resolutions.
We hope others have done the same.
