A woman on a bicycle traveling south on Godfrey Road in north Putnam County died after being hit by a vehicle at approximately 7:13 p.m. Tuesday, according to Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills.
Teresa Rose, age 56, of Milledgeville, was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet van driven by Josafat Gonzalez-Villagrana, age 32, of Hull.
“Witnesses told deputies that Gonzalez-Villagrana was turning west onto Glades Road and struck Ms. Rose on her bicycle as she was traveling toward Eatonton at the intersection,” Sills said. “Ms. Rose was dead at scene when emergency personnel arrived.”
The sheriff reported that Gonzalez-Villagrana was taken into custody on charges of misdemeanor homicide by vehicle, failure to give right of way and failure to give a turn signal. He is presently lodged in the Putnam County Jail, and the investigation of this accident continues.
