A Greensboro police officer arrested a Union Point man on multiple charges after making a traffic stop on March 28.
Larry Dean Jones, 66, has been charged with DUI (alcohol), failure to maintain lane, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with intent to distribute, and failure to keep pills in original container.
According to the Greensboro Police Department, Sgt. T. J. Janes saw Jones driving erratically on Pool Road and East Broad Street, and the traffic stop was initiated near the airport.
Jones showed signs of impairment, including the odor of alcohol and marijuana, bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech. During the investigation, officers also observed and recovered a quantity of suspected Oxycodone inside the vehicle.
Field sobriety testing and a preliminary breath test indicated a high level of impairment. Jones was taken into custody and later refused a state-administered blood test at the hospital.
Further investigation revealed multiple suspected oxycodone pills packaged in a manner consistent with distribution.
“I want to commend our officers for their vigilance and dedication in keeping our community safe,” Greensboro Police Chief Rodricus Monford said. “Their proactive enforcement not only removed an impaired driver from our roadways but also prevented dangerous drugs from reaching our streets. This type of work makes a real impact — protecting families, reducing crime, and holding offenders accountable. I’m proud of the professionalism shown in this case and grateful for the continued commitment of our department to public safety.”
