The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested two former Nathanael Greene Academy teachers on sexual misconduct charges.
On March 21, Bonnie Elizabeth Brown, age 25, of White Plains, was charged with improper sexual contact by an employee, agent, or foster parent.
On June 14, 2024, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate allegations of sexual contact between a student and a former Nathanael Greene Academy teacher in Siloam, according to a GBI press release. The investigation confirmed that Brown had engaged in sexual contact with a student while employed as a teacher at Nathanael Greene Academy, a private school not affiliated with the Greene County public school system. She was teaching in Wilkes County prior to her arrest.
Brown was booked into the Greene County Jail.
On March 24, the GBI announced that it had arrested a second teacher formerly employed at Nathanael Greene Academy on multiple felony charges.
Sherri Delle Mauldin, age 60, of Buckhead, faces charges of improper sexual contact by an employee, agent, or foster parent, aggravated child molestation, and statutory rape.
The investigation confirmed that Mauldin had engaged in sexual contact with a student while employed as a teacher at Nathanael Greene Academy.
Mauldin was also booked into the Greene County Jail.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
Nathanael Greene Academy stated the arrests on March 24.
“Nathanael Greene Academy’s administration and Board of Directors are cooperating with law enforcement and assisting them in every way possible while being careful not to interfere with the investigation,” the statement read.
NGA said it is conducting its own investigation to determine any appropriate measures that need to be taken by the school, and plans to provide further information following an emergency board meeting.
“While there is a desire to provide all information as soon as it becomes available, state and federal laws require the release of information in a manner that respects the privacy of individuals involved,” school leaders said in the statement. “NGA is committed to the safety, welfare, and education of all of its students — past, present, and future.”
