Two arrested after alleged armed robbery

GREENE COUNTY

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged two people on Dec. 30 in connection with a possible armed robbery that allegedly occurred on Dec. 27.

Qyderious Jerome Jernigan, 22, of 111 Hickory Lane, White Plains, faces charges of giving false name or address to law enforcement officers, obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of drug-related objects, possession of a firearm or knife while trying to commit crimes, and possession of a controlled substance.

Jaimey Leigh May, 28, of 1260 Poole Rd., Greensboro, has been charged with theft by taking and for being a party to the crime.

Additional charges of home invasion, false imprisonment, and aggravated battery may be added to the charges.

According to reports, Deputy Alfred Flores of the Greensboro Police Department was sent to speak with a “Mr. Brown,” who claimed he was the victim of an armed robbery.

Brown said he and his roommate were at his home on Dec. 27, when around 5 p.m., he heard a knock at the door.

May, a woman known to Brown, said she was stranded and asked him if she could use his phone and have something to drink. When the victim returned from the kitchen with the drink, he said two black males attacked him he did not recognize.

One of the males allegedly struck Brown in the face, and the two wrestled him to the couch. They tied his hands and feet together with zip ties.

The victim said he saw that one of the men had a small handgun.

The men went through his belongings, and Brown said he heard one of them say they should kill him for not having any money.

The men told the victim to look down until they were gone.

After some time had passed, Brown said he made his way to his bedroom, retrieved a pocket knife, and cut off the zip ties.

Brown said he was unable to call for help because May had kept his phone, and he was unable to go out to seek help because he is partially blind.

He told Flores he met May through his roommate. He said May had previously been to his home and described her as a short white female with a facial scar. Brown’s face appeared to have visible injuries.

The roommate said she was not home when the alleged robbery occurred.

Brown said he was hesitant to report the incident to law enforcement, but his roommate convinced him to do so.

Flores, Brown, and the roommate then went to the victim’s residence, where Brown walked Flores through the incident. He was visibly upset and had tears in his eyes, Flores later reported.

The victim said that, in addition to the flip phone May kept, the only items missing from the residence were a Dewalt jump-start box and a plastic container containing U.S. $8 in change.

Brown’s roommate recalled a past incident in which May was at the house and told her to leave. The roommate said she learned through some acquaintances that May was upset about being made to leave and suggested she might go back and rob the victim.

Flores secured arrest warrants for May and went to 1050 Gray Horse Rd. along with Lt. Patrick Paquette, in an attempt to locate her.

After entering the residence, the deputies found a subject who identified himself as Quinderious Jernigan hiding behind a shower curtain. They also found a firearm on the ground under the bed, drugs sitting in plain view on the nightstand next to the bed, and a wallet containing an ID card identifying Jernigan, who had an active arrest warrant out of Morgan County.

Jernigan was then transported to the Greene County Jail. After being fingerprinted, Jernigan finally admitted that he was actually Qyderious Jernigan and provided his real date of birth.

A criminal history check revealed Jernigan had been convicted of burglary and felony theft by taking in Morgan County in April 2022 and was on active probation.

Items located during the search were seized for evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
