Greensboro police officers made two significant arrests last week following traffic stops, according to Police Chief Rodricus Monford.
The first occurred on Aug. 30, while officers were patrolling the area of East Broad Street. Officers saw a man driving without his seatbelt on.
Officers initiated a traffic stop and the driver was identified as Quincy Ramon Jackson, 41, of Sparta.
According to the Greensboro Police Department, officers smelled a strong smell of marijuana coming from within the vehicle, so a probable cause search was conducted.
During the search, the driver was found to be in possession of various controlled substances. Jackson was arrested and transported to the Greene County LEC where he was booked on charges of possession of marijuana less than an ounce, possession of crack cocaine and possession of ecstasy.
On Sunday, Sept. 4, while officers were patrolling the area of South Main Street, they observed a vehicle leaving the parking lot of Zaxby’s laying drags in the roadway and soon left the area.
Officers advised other city units to be on the lookout for the vehicle, and a traffic stop was soon conducted.
The driver was identified as Se’Darius Dantrell Brown, 20, of Union Point. A passenger in the vehicle was later released.
While speaking to Brown, officers smelled marijuana coming from within the vehicle once again and a probable cause search was conducted. During the search, Brown was found to be in possession of marijuana, a Glock 19 9MM, a digital scale with marijuana residue and a box of sandwich bags (commonly used in the sale of marijuana).
Brown was arrested and transported to the Greene County LEC where he was booked on the charges of possession of drug-related objects, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Chief Monford expressed his appreciation for the effort and hard work of his officers in getting drugs off Greensboro streets.
