Thurmond announces bid for tax commissioner

GREENE COUNTY

Celeste Thurmond recently announced her candidacy for Greene County Tax Commissioner.

She has served Greene County in various positions for the last 13 years. She has been employed as deputy clerk for the clerk of the superior court, level 3 tax appraiser for the board of assessors, accounting clerk for the probate and magistrate courts, and currently serves as administrative assistant at C.W. Smith Insurance Agency.

Celeste is the treasurer of the Greene County Livestock Association and a member of the Greene County Historical Society. She is a proponent of preserving the historic courthouse and keeping all judicial functions in it, saving the taxpayers millions of dollars. She is an active member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she teaches the 3-and-4-year-old Awana class on Wednesday nights.

Celeste has received numerous hours of state-mandated training from the Georgia Department of Revenue and worked hard to achieve her level 3 tax appraiser certification. She believes the best training she has received is the hands-on experience and learning from working with the Board of Assessors and mentorships from former Tax Commissioner Candace Lawson and Probate Court Judge LaVerne Ogletree.

She concludes ,“I believe my extraordinary experiences give me the knowledge and skills to serve all the citizens of Greene County. I love this county and all the people in it.”

Celeste and her husband, Jim, reside in Veazey.
