A total of 16 law enforcement officers from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Greensboro Police Department teamed up to corral a criminal wanted in three Virginia jurisdictions as well as Morgan County on Feb. 26.
Personnel from the sheriff’s offices in Walton and Morgan counties and the Georgia State Patrol also assisted in the arrest.
Chrishawn Tyrone Johnson, 31, of 6154 Wynnwood Dr., Fayetteville, N.C., has been charged with aggravated assault, driving while license suspended, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, super speeder, obstruction, possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, and trafficking MDMA. He was also cited for a window tint violation, failure to maintain lane, passing in a no-passing zone, failure to obey traffic control devices, and driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
Daquan Davis, 33, and Toni Cook, 39, both of Lawrenceville, were also arrested and charged with trafficking ecstasy and possession of Schedule II narcotics.
According to reports, Deputy Leo Sierra conducted a traffic stop for a window tint violation on the black Mercedes that Johnson was driving at the intersection of Lake Oconee Parkway and I-20 at around 4 p.m.
When Sierra approached the vehicle, Johnson said he did not have his license with him.
When Sierra asked Johnson to get out of the car, he told the deputy he had an amputated leg and needed to connect his prosthetic device.
Deputy Ryan Hall arrived and tried to open the driver’s door, but Johnson locked it.
According to Sierra’s account, Johnson whispered something to the female passenger in the back seat. She tried to get out of the car, but Sierra pushed the door shut.
Lt. Patrick Paquette arrived and asked Johnson to get out of the car several times.
Johnson refused and drove away toward Greensboro.
Johnson stopped momentarily in front of Golden Pantry, where a female passenger got out. He then continued northbound, crossing into oncoming traffic lanes.
Johnson led deputies on a high-speed chase through the streets in downtown Greensboro before nearly causing a head-on collision with a Greensboro Police Department patrol unit.
Paquette attempted to stop the fleeing vehicle with his patrol unit. The Mercedes struck the right front of Paquette’s patrol unit but spun and continued.
Johnson merged right onto Highway 15 South, and the pursuit continued to Siloam at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
Near the intersection of Pear Orchard Road, the occupants of the vehicle threw something from the passenger side window.
Johnson drove down the Siloam exit ramp onto the wrong side of I-20 and continued into oncoming traffic at speeds exceeding 110 miles per hour, according to reports. He later used the on-ramp at Lake Oconee Parkway to enter the correct flow of traffic.
Paquette issued an order to make every reasonable attempt to stop the Mercedes.
Sierra attempted a PIT maneuver, but he said his vehicle lost traction and slid into the Mercedes. Johnson then turned right and caused Sierra to collide with Deputy Skilman’s vehicle.
Johnson continued into Morgan County but spun out near milepost 118 and came to a stop. Johnson and a male passenger, later identified as Daquan Davis, 33, of Loganville, fled the vehicle on foot.
K-9 teams from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office then arrived, along with Morgan County deputies, Georgia State Patrol, and the Georgia State Patrol Air Unit.
Johnson was found hiding in the woods.
According to the report, Johnson appeared to have ingested narcotics and was unresponsive at that point. The GCSO Criminal Investigations Division searched the vehicle and found approximately 2.5 pounds of Ecstasy and over 12 Oxycodone pills. Later that evening, Davis and Cook were taken into custody.
A GCIC check revealed that Johnson had outstanding arrest warrants in Virginia Beach, Virginia; King George, Virginia; Hanover, Virginia; and Morgan County. Davis had outstanding arrest warrants in Cumberland, North Carolina; Gwinnett County; and Walton County.
