A North Carolina teenager driving a stolen car was arrested in Morgan County on July 20 after a brief pursuit on a congested portion of I-20.
Adahreyon Dessausure, 17, of Greensboro, N.C., faces charges of theft by receiving stolen property, reckless driving and driving without a license as a result.
According to reports, Sgt. Travis Stubbs staged his patrol unit in the gore of the eastbound entrance ramp to I-20 at Exit 113 after receiving a report about a stolen vehicle that had “pinged” in the area.
Dispatch relayed that the gray Volkswagen Tiguan had been stolen from Dessausure’s grandmother.
A little after 2:30 p.m., Stubbs spotted what he believed to be the suspect vehicle, but was unable to read the license plate to be sure.
According to Stubbs, traffic was especially heavy that afternoon, and Dessausure was traveling in the left lane, which impaired his pursuit.
When Stubbs finally entered the flow of traffic and began to accelerate, he noticed that Dessausure was traveling considerably faster than the other vehicles and began to pass them on the left and right shoulders.
Stubbs activated his lights and siren, and Dessausure left the interstate at Seven Islands Road and turned right.
Dessausure turned right onto Bonner Lane.
Knowing Bonner Lane was a dead-end road, Stubbs held his position at its intersection with Seven Islands Road until additional units arrived.
After Officer Emily Eaton, Deputy Cameron Ptak, and Deputy Thomas Morgan arrived, the group located the Volkswagen, which was backed into a driveway, and arrested Dessausure without incident.
He was transported to jail by the Morgan County Sheriff's Office.
