Students earn $37,000 at Thillen Education Foundation recognition receptions

The Thillen Education Foundation, in affiliation with Greene College & Career Academy, recognized recipients of the Dave Dollar Awards during its second-semester receptions.

The most recent Student Recognition Reception was held on March 17, when student earnings surpassed $37,000. Hosted at Greene College & Career Academy, the event brought together career coaches, parents, family members, friends, and school staff.

The celebration featured accolades from career coaches for student performance, recognition of community service involvement, praise for exemplary attendance, and acknowledgment of students’ financial progress on their individualized career plans.

Looking ahead, the Class of 2026 will attend Senior Honors Night on May 18, when the Thillen Education Foundation will award more than $333,000 to graduating seniors.

The Dave Dollar Awards program is a unique initiative that rewards students for their dedication and hard work throughout high school. These “Dave Dollars” convert into real dollars upon graduation from Greene County High School. In addition to providing each student with a career coach for all four years, the program offers financial support to help students take the next step in their education or careers.

Parental involvement is recognized as key to student success

The receptions also emphasized the vital role of parental involvement. As a testament to the importance of family support, more than 40 parents in attendance each received $25 in Dave Dollars to present to their child, reinforcing the value of encouragement and motivation in achieving educational and career goals.

Flexibility for post-graduation success

Students who earn Dave Dollars have the flexibility to use their funds based on their chosen path after graduation:

  • Education Scholarship – Funds may be used to assist with college or trade school expenses.
  • Workforce Career Start – Funds may be used to purchase professional supplies needed for a chosen career.
  • Entrepreneur Startup – Funds are available to help students launch their own business.
  • Military Service – Funds remain available for up to six years for education, career advancement, or post-military entrepreneurial pursuits.
