Greensboro police officers arrested a man on drug and weapons charges on April 1 following a traffic stop, which was initiated because he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
Alvin Peaks Jr., 41, of Greensboro faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of ecstasy with the intent to distribute, and a seatbelt violation.
According to Greensboro Police Chief Rodricus Monford, officers were patrolling the area of East Broad Street when they observed a driver who was not wearing a seatbelt.
Officers initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Peaks.
As officers approached the vehicle, there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to the reports.
Peaks was issued a citation for the seatbelt violation and then informed there would be a probable cause search of the vehicle due to the odor of marijuana.
During the search, officers found a white pill bottle with a large amount of Ecstasy and a small amount of marijuana inside the passenger side floorboard.
Peaks was then placed under arrest. During a search of Peak’s person, officers discovered a Cz-PO9 9mm handgun inside of his right boot.
After running Peak’s criminal history, it was discovered that he was previously convicted of felony Terroristic Threats and acts in 2000.
Peaks was then transported to the Greene County jail.
