A South Carolina woman was already on her way to jail after getting in a fight at Waffle House on Dec. 8 when she tried to kick a police officer in the eye, according to reports obtained from the Greensboro Police Department.
Marissiah Alexis Joyce Hodge, 30, of Columbia, S.C. Hodge is being charged with obstruction of law enforcement, affray, and public drunkenness.
Morgan Elizabeth Regina Duggan, 21, of Elgin, S.C., is being charged with affray and public drunkenness.
According to a report, Officer P. Cosby was sitting at the Waffle House at around 7:30 a.m. when Duggan came into the restaurant with a male and sat down at the bar adjacent to the grill to place an order.
A few minutes later, Hodge came into the restaurant, stood between Duggan and the male, and got into a verbal dispute with Duggan.
Hodge appeared intoxicated, according to the report, and the dispute soon turned physical.
Cosby left his seat and intervened in the fight. Another Greensboro officer arrived, and both Duggan and Hodge were detained in the back of patrol units.
Duggan was transported to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center, but Hodge had to be transported to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital for a medical clearance.
While at the hospital, Hodge kept trying to leave the room where she was placed, stating “she wanted to go home,” according to the report.
Cosby said, when he placed his hand on Hodge’s arm to direct her back to the bed, she raised her foot and kicked him in the right eye. Hodge was later cleared and transported to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center.
