The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties recently announced its January 2023 Students of the Month, including Karlie Horton (Gatewood Schools), Jai’Lyn Armour (Greene County High School), Halsey Bosart (Lake Oconee Academy), Marisa Williams (Nathanael Greene Academy), and Jaida Jackson (Putnam County High School).

Karlie Horton, the daughter of Anne Marie Horton in Eatonton, is currently a senior at Gatewood and has attended there since K-3.

She has been cheering since 2nd grade and won a state title for competitive cheer in 2020. She has participated in multiple clubs, such as Anchor Club, Literary, the Student Ambassadors Program, and more.

She also holds a leadership role as class president and serves on the Student Planning Committee as a treasurer.

She works part-time at the Putnam County Recreation Department and also can be found doing community service.

She is a high school honors student and has won multiple awards, including the Scholastic Leader Award and the Eatonton Putnam Chamber of Commerce 2022 Youth in Excellence award.

Karlie plans to attend the University of Georgia to major in psychology and minor in criminal justice.

She chose Beth Moss as her Rotary Teacher since she was in her first class at Gatewood. Karlie also chose Mrs. Moss since she coached her in sideline cheer, and she enjoys being around her loving and bubbly personality.

Jai'Lyn Armour, a senior at Greene County High School, is the son of Tracnesa Randolph and Jonathan Armour. As an honor roll student, Jai'Lyn also is the current president of his school’s DECA and National Beta Club chapters. Jai'Lyn also is a member of the Georgia Secretary of State's Student Ambassador Program, UGA Leadership, and UGA Upward Bound.

Outside of school, he frequently dedicates his time to volunteering in the Greene County Area, playing video games, and practicing graphic design.

He also has a part-time job at Randolph Tax Specialist in Union Point, where he’s a marketing and office assistant.

Jai'Lyn has been accepted by several colleges and plans to major in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing at his chosen university. Kati Mize is Jai'Lyn's chosen Greene County High School teacher of the month.

Halsey Bosart is a senior at Lake Oconee Academy and her parents are Rob and Laura Bosart.

An honor roll student, Halsey is the Student Body President, Lake Oconee Miracle member, and Beta Club Member, and was a participant in extemporaneous speaking on domestic politics at the annual Literary Meet. As a junior, he won his region and placed fifth in the state-held competition.

Athletically, he is a member of the varsity basketball team and has won two state championships with the golf team.

Halsey has interests in finance, politics, and history. Outside of the classroom, he attends Lake Oconee Church and participates in local Young Life events and studies.

In his free time, Halsey can be found on the golf course, spending time with family, or watching football with his buddies.

Halsey considers his leadership as his greatest attribute.

After high school, Halsey’s excited about playing golf at Berry College and pursuing a degree in Finance. In the future, he sees himself working alongside his father in wealth management and becoming a third-generation family business partner. Halsey chose Saiful Islam as his teacher of the month.

Marisa Williams, the daughter of Chris and Danielle Williams is a junior at Nathanael Greene Academy. She is an honor roll student and a member of the Beta Club and Yearbook committee.

She participates in One-Act, cheer, and tennis, and Marisa is currently attending a course to become a certified first responder.

She enjoys reading, her job at the movie theater, and spending time with her friends and family. Marisa considers her determination and positivity to be her most important attributes and sees her parents as her main inspiration and motivators. After high school, Marisa plans to join the medical field. Mrs. Miranda Lanier is Marisa's chosen Nathanael Greene Academy School teacher of the month.

Jaida Jackson is a senior at Putnam County High School. An honor roll student, Jaida is the president of the Beta Club, Anchor Club, and National Honors Society. She also is on the Farmers and Merchants Junior Board of Directories and a member of the golf team.

Jaida said she is inspired by the Maya Angelou quote: “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

After high school, Jaida plans to attend Augusta University and major in Pharmaceutical Science. She selected Jonathan Deen as her teacher of the month.
