The City of Madison’s Safety & Wellness Committee recognized Breast Cancer Awareness Month by hosting Pink Talk: A Lunch & Learn on Oct. 16 at the Public Safety Meeting Hall.
The event brought together city employees and invited guests for an afternoon of breast health education, meaningful conversation and encouragement centered on the importance of early detection, routine screenings and taking an active role in personal health.
The featured speaker, Lisa Lyles, RN, BSN, MHA, a breast cancer survivor and founder and CEO of Bella256 Boutique, presented “The Breast Health Promise,” an informative and engaging discussion emphasizing breast health awareness, recognizing changes, seeking appropriate care and advocating for one’s health.
Drawing on her personal experience and professional knowledge, Lyles encouraged participants to be proactive about their health and empowered them with information to help make informed decisions.
Sara Boyd of the Northeast Health District also participated, sharing educational materials and information about breast health resources and services available within through the Public Health Department and the community.
The afternoon provided an inviting atmosphere for learning and fellowship, with lunch, educational resources, giveaways and special gift bags recognizing breast cancer survivors.
The also welcomed Candace Amos, senior health and financial wellness consultant with the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA).
Amos oversees GMA’s Well-Being Program and Well-Being Grant, which provided partial funding for the event. Pink Talk is part of the City of Madison’s ongoing commitment to supporting employee health and well-being through education, preventive care, and access to valuable resources.
While the city’s wellness initiatives primarily focus on employees, Pink Talk also provided an opportunity to extend important health education to spouses and community guests.
The City of Madison extended appreciation to Lisa Lyles, Sara Boyd, Candace Amos, the Georgia Municipal Association, and everyone who participated.
While Breast Cancer Awareness Month provides an important opportunity to bring attention to breast health, the message of Pink Talk is one worth remembering throughout the year: Be informed. Be proactive. Make your health a priority.
