Paws for Pistons: Humane society hosts annual car show

    The Humane Society of Morgan County hosted its “Paws for Pistons” charity car show in downtown Madison on Sept. 21. 

    The annual event, free to the public, took place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

    For this year’s event, HSMC had a total of 73 participants enter the competition, showcasing a variety of car, truck, and motorcycle models. Each participant contributed to the nonprofit’s “Stuff the truck” donation drive, providing items for the shelter, including cleaning supplies, pet food, and cat litter.

    HSMC Director Miranda Johnson said that the nonprofit is pleased with the turnout of the event and aims for a goal of 100 participants next year.

    “This is one of the best years we have had for the car show, and we feel like we have had so much more help and less stress than ever before,” Johnson said. “We were able to clear over $5,300, plus we also brought in sales for [our] calendars and $10K raffle tickets.”

    HSMC awarded the Best in Show prize to Charlie Morris’ 1967 Chevy Malibu, and the People’s Choice prize went to Janet Floyd for her 1964 Cadillac Deville.

    Paws for Pistons also included appearances from some of the dogs available for adoption at the HSMC’s shelter located at 1170 Fairground Rd. The nonprofit had a puppy named Chai adopted at the event and is hoping to find a home for her sister, Mocha.

    “Thank you to all of our donors, sponsors, participants, volunteers, community supporters, and adopters,” said Johnson. “It was a wonderful day, and we are only able to do this because of you!”
