Georgia Department of Transportation contractors will implement a detour to accommodate construction activities for the new interchange project along I-20 at Old Mill Road in Morgan County.
The detour is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 27, and is expected to last for 90 days, weather permitting.
The proposed detour will begin at the stop sign at Old Mill Road and U.S. 278 (Atlanta Highway) north of I-20 and will follow Atlanta Highway eastbound for approximately 1.6 miles.
Vehicles will then travel southbound on Newborn Road for approximately 3.6 miles, where they will intersect with Old Mill Road south of I-20. The entire detour route will cover approximately 5.2 miles.
During the detour period, access to residential driveways, local businesses, and public facilities will be maintained. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully around the detour, follow posted signage, and plan their routes using the 511GA app.
Popular navigation applications may not reflect the detour changes immediately, so relying on official signage is advised.
The I-20 at Old Mill Road Interchange project is designed to enhance safety, connectivity, and mobility in Morgan County.
The project includes the construction of a new bridge over I-20 west of the existing bridge, complete with full interstate access.
