A Morgan County deputy arrested a North Carolina man Sept. 20 after a chase that reached speeds in excess of 130 miles per hour.
Ronald Wayne Irvin, 25, of Parkton, N.C., now faces charges of felony fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, speeding, reckless driving, improper passing, aggressive driving and possession of marijuana.
According to reports, Deputy Bo Kelly clocked a Toyota Supra traveling at 103 miles per hour as it traveled west on I-20 near Buckhead.
Kelly attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed. Kelly reported that he reached a speed of 130 miles per hour on the interstate, but the Supra was pulling away from him.
Kelly lost sight of the Supra near exit 114 but caught sight of it again as it traveled along Highway 83 near the Love’s Truck Stop.
Kelly attempted to conduct another traffic stop, but Irwin fled once again and got back on I-20 westbound.
Contact was lost again at exit 105, but information was passed along to Newton County deputies who were able to apprehend Irvin at Exit 88, just past the Covington city limits.
Irvin was brought back to the Morgan County jail.
A Glock firearm was found in the Supra.
