Morgan County’s taxing entities all set millage rates over the past week.
The Morgan County Board of Commissioners set the 2025 rate Aug. 5 at 9.466, which represents the rollback rate, down from last year’s rate of 9.686.
According to Morgan County Finance Director Lori Sayer, all property values were frozen at the 2024 assessment value after the passage of HB 581, and there were no inflationary adjustments from the state in 2025.
“Someone with a homestead exemption should actually see a decrease in their tax bill if there were no changes to their property,” Sayer said.
Based on $100,000 of assessed value, a Morgan County taxpayer paid $368.07 in property taxes last year but will pay $359.71 this year.
The Morgan County Board of Education set its millage rate during a called meeting on Aug. 14 at 12.945, down from a rate of 13.098 last year. All three of Madison's millage rates were rolled back as well on Aug. 11.
The greater Madison district rate is down to 5.279 this year as opposed to 5.317 last year. Madison’s special downtown district rate dropped from 0.980 in 2024 to .0968, and the special corridor tax district dropped from 1.079 to 1.069.
