Athens Academy inducted 61 students into the National Honor Society on Oct. 24, including two students from Madison: Abhi Chawla, son of Priya and Mike Chawla, and Millie Pugmire, daughter of Allison and Austin Pugmire.
Membership in the National Honor Society requires the student to be outstanding in four areas: scholarship, leadership, character, and service. To qualify for membership, a student must be a junior and have attained a weighted GPA of 3.75, or a senior with a weighted GPA of 3.70.
The student must also have demonstrated a capacity for leadership in school and community activities, and must have fulfilled any elected or appointed office with responsibility. The student’s character must be marked by honesty, responsibility, fairness, courtesy, tolerance, and cooperation.
Concern for others is demonstrated by the student’s willingness to serve the school and community, exemplifying positive qualities and attitudes.
