Local man crushed by car in storage lot

GREENE COUNTY

A Greensboro man was found dead beneath a vehicle in the storage lot behind Roper’s Collision Center on Union Point Highway at 9:27 p.m. on the night of Oct. 29, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the area of Ballfield Road following a report of a “person down” in Greensboro. When Sgt. Eli Franks arrived in the area, he entered the storage lot along with Greene County Fire and Rescue personnel. He found the body of Justin Brian Peters, 47, lying under a vehicle deceased.

According to Sheriff Donnie Harrison, “The preliminary investigation suggests that Peters was attempting to remove the catalytic converter from the vehicle using a battery-powered saw when the vehicle fell on him and fatally injured him.”

Greene County Coroner Jeff Smith arrived on the scene and had Peters transported to the GBI Crime Lab pending an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of his death.

According to the Greene County Sheriff's Office, this is an active, ongoing investigation, and no further details are available at this time.
