GREENE COUNTY
Dr. Maggie Kjer was appointed to the Greene County Board of Education in February 2023.
Since then, she has focused on various areas but has primarily championed middle and high school staff to enhance students’ academic performance. Kjer’s efforts to promote district-wide teaching and learning specifically in secondary schools in their pursuit of academic excellence have already resulted in notable gains in student engagement and test score performance.
Kjer was appointed to the Board of Education after Dr. Perry Lee assumed the board’s chairmanship.
After receiving her Ph.D. in Education, she taught special education for over a decade. In addition, Kjer spent almost two decades with Pearson as the assessment consultant for all Georgia school districts. In this role, she evaluated best practices in all academic learning areas.
For nearly thirty years, she has consistently dedicated herself to improving education for diverse groups of students in the classroom and the teachers and administrators who work hard to give hope to future generations by providing the best atmosphere possible for learning. Kjer regularly states her philosophy that “a quality education is the greatest opportunity for all children.”
When asked about her candidacy to seek a full term in office, Kjer said, “I am a passionate, highly trained and experienced educator. In the short time I have served on the Board of Education, I have focused my time analyzing test results as well as education processes and procedures to offer suggestions to GCSS administrators to maximize our teacher’s potential to give our children a world-class education.
I have primarily focused my time at the middle and high school levels. At Carson Middle School and Greene County High School, we are already beginning to see improvements in test scores, but most importantly, increased student engagement. I continue to be impressed with the teachers and administrators at LOA, GCHS, CMS, and GCPS. It is an honor to serve the Greene County School District.”
If elected, she will continue to work hard to improve educational outcomes and opportunities for all students in every school within Greene County.
Kjer is married to retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Jim Kjer. They are animal lovers and currently have 6 dogs. They attend Lake Oconee Church, where she teaches first-grade Sunday School.
Kjer is a longtime volunteer and fundraiser for the Greene County Food Pantry through the Reynolds Ladies Club. She enjoys several hobbies ranging from golf and pickleball to reading and canasta.
