You’ll have yet another chance to wear one of those “I Voted” stickers in the next couple of weeks, because a couple of local elections won’t be decided until the General Primary Runoff is completed on June 18.
Early voting for the Runoff begins Monday, June 10, and continues until Friday, June 14, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot is June 7.
In Morgan County, you can vote early at the Morgan County Elections Office located at 237 N. Second St. in Madison. For more information, call 706-343-6311.
In Greene County, early voting takes place at the Board of Elections & Registration office, located at 1180 C. Weldon Smith Dr., Suite 109, Greensboro. Call 706-453-1108 for more information.
The only Runoff on the Morgan County ballot is the contest for sheriff, pitting Republicans Lt. Joseph Pritchett of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office against Tyler Hooks, formerly of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.
Incumbent Sheriff Robert Markley chose not to run for reelection after 24 years in office.
Pritchett placed first in the primary election with 1,518 votes, while Hooks tallied 1,236 votes. Five other candidates were eliminated following the primary.
The winner of the Republican Runoff will face Democratic candidate Capt. Derrick Reid in November. In Greene County, the election for the Board of Commissioners District 4 seat election has yet to be settled.
Republican Steve Broadbent received the most votes, with 836 (40.56%), and Mark Blanton finished second with 641 votes (31.1%), setting up the runoff election. Incumbent Ernie Filice, an independent candidate, finished third with 584 votes (28.34%), losing his seat on the BOC.
Only voters who chose the Republican or Nonpartisan ballot in May or voters who did not vote in the primary can vote in the runoff election. There is no Democratic race in the Runoff, so voters who chose to vote on the Democratic ballot in May are not eligible to vote in tRunoffoff.
