Greene County Judicial center just one part of bigger vision

The last addition to the 175-year-old Greene County Courthouse was finished in 1998. It included everything from the glass divider (midway in photo) and everything to the right of it.
A vacant room on the third floor of the courthouse is one of five spaces that have been available and unused since 2019.
The proposed Judicial Center would be built using the frame of the county arena at the county Public Service Campus on C. Weldon Smith Drive. A new arena would be built on land next to the current recreation department facility on Union Point Road.
An architectural design drawing of the proposed Judicial Center building’s first floor shows about 50 offices, conference rooms and work space with plenty of additional space available for future offices.
A proposal to move court and judicial services out of the Greene County courthouse in downtown Greensboro and into a new Judicial Center is just one part of a bigger vision held by county leaders.
Pieces of the puzzle have been coming together for what County Manager Byron Lombard calls a “one-stop shopping” area for county services on C. Weldon Smith Drive.
