Men of Lake Oconee, a new lake area charitable organization, is pleased to announce the appointment of two new directors to its board of trustees: Howard Goldstein and Rob Mitchell.
Men of Lake Oconee (MLO) is a local service organization born in the fall of 2020 and designed to serve those in need in Greene and Putnam Counties. Specifically, MLO helps those in need of a hand up—not a handout. MLO’s focus: one-time critical need home repairs, repairing or replacing a primary vehicle for families, and Beds for Kidz—for kids who don’t have a bed of their own. MLO primarily serves older adults, children, single working mothers and their children, military veterans, developmentally and/or physically challenged individuals, and low-income families. In its short time in existence MLO has built and delivered over 140 beds to kids in need, completed more than 40 home projects, and repaired or replaced 10 vehicles.
“Howard and Rob both bring experience and great perspective relating to serving those in need and will be invaluable in helping us fulfill our mission,” said MLO president Bob Massey. “Specifically, Howard has significant construction experience and is a perfect fit to lead our Project Manager Group. His role is to oversee projects including bathroom and kitchen rehabs, roof replacements, window replacements, plumbing and electrical work, and other miscellaneous jobs.”
Mr. Goldstein stated, “Serving on the board of Men of Lake Oconee is a great opportunity to help provide a hand up to those in need in our community while working with an outstanding group of caring and focused men.”
Mr. Mitchell is well-known throughout the community for his various philanthropic works including serving most recently as the Executive Director of Atlas Ministry in Greensboro, Georgia. He has a vast network throughout the two counties which he hopes to leverage to help find qualified recipients for MLO’s assistance.
“Two causes that I really care about are the well-being of children and assisting families who are living in poverty, and serving on the board of Men of Lake Oconee will allow me to focus on those two areas with a dedicated group of like-minded volunteers,” said Mitchell.
Men of Lake Oconee is a unique group, organized to appeal to men who want to contribute to their community by giving money and/or time without having to commit to meetings, specific involvement, or unworkable time expectations.
All men are invited—and encouraged—to join and help make a difference in the community in which they live.
