GCSO launches text notification service

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office recently announced the activation of a dedicated outbound SMS text notification service.

The new tool is designed to enhance—not replace—the existing MySheriff mobile app, creating a multi-channel approach to public safety and community transparency.

While the MySheriff app remains the comprehensive digital gateway for residents to access agency information, resources, and interactive features, the new SMS service provides a streamlined path for instant communication.

A primary goal is to improve accessibility for older adults and those who prefer traditional mobile communication. This ensures that even residents without a smartphone or active data plan can receive life-safety alerts and critical department updates.

“The MySheriff app remains our most powerful tool for community engagement, as it requires no registration or personal information,” said Sheriff Harrison. “The addition of SMS alerts ensures we have a redundant, reliable way to reach every resident instantly, ensuring no one is left out of the loop during an emergency.”

Residents can enroll by texting JOIN to 706-6425222. The service is self-managed, and residents may opt-out at any time by texting STOP.
