Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:13
Everyone in Lake Country knew that Chris Eddy was a hero. Now the entire state of Georgia knows it. Eddy’s name was inscribed on South Set Column 5, Face C of the Memorial Wall at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center during an Oct. 10 ceremony.
“The State of Georgia did a remarkable job paying tribute to our brothers,” said Greene County Fire Chief Rodney Wiggins. “It was a ceremony filled with reverence and respect, exactly what our heroes deserve.”
Chief Eddy’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the firefighters he mentored, and the community he faithfully served.
“Christopher’s absence is felt every day,” Wiggins said. “But so is his spirit. He led with heart, and we are committed to honoring him with that same passion in everything we do.”
As the names were read and the final bell tolled, those gathered stood united, in grief, in love, and in remembrance.
“These ceremonies remind us how precious life is,” said Wiggins. “They inspire us to serve with intention, love openly, and never take a single day for granted.”
Eddy’s memory continues to guide GCFR in their mission, a legacy of service that will never be forgotten.
Seven individuals from across the State of Georgia were recognized for their ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. The service was attended by families and friends of the fallen, fire and emergency services personnel, members of the Board of Public Safety, and members of the Georgia legislature. The families of these individuals were presented with a plaque in honor of their sacrifice. Chief Brian Marcos of the Smyrna Fire Department gave the memorial address.
The service was followed by a processional to the Memorial Wall, where the names of the fallen had been inscribed on the Public Safety Memorial. This event is sponsored by the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs and the Georgia State Firefighters Association.
