Former NGA teacher to serve 15 years

GREENE COUNTY

Bonnie Elizabeth Brown was on trial last week for five counts of improper sexual contact with a student when she was a teacher at Nathanael Greene Academy.

According to District Attorney T. Wright Barksdale, the trial lasted four days, and the jury deliberated for three hours to reach its verdict.

“The jury found that Brown had intercourse with a 16-year-old student,” he said. “The victim was able to accurately describe Brown’s bedroom, and Brown’s cell phone GPS data showed she was at the victim’s residence at the time he said one of the instances happened.”

Superior Court Judge Stephen Bradley sentenced Brown to 40 years, with 15 years to be served in prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Blayne May.

“The District Attorney’s Office would like to thank the GBI for its efforts in investigating this case,” Barksdale added.

On June 14, 2024, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate allegations of sexual contact between a student and a former NGA teacher, according to a previous Lake Oconee News story. The investigation confirmed that Brown had engaged in sexual contact with a student while employed as a teacher at Nathanael Greene Academy.

Brown was arrested on March 21, 2025.
