Firefighters had to contend with winds gusting as high as 40 mph as they battled a fire in Woodville on April 12, but personnel from several departments were able to get the fire under control in 10 minutes.

According to Greene County’s Emergency Management Agency Director Joe Bashore, the home on Dogwood Road South (part of Highway 77) was 80 percent involved when firefighters arrived and turned out to be a total loss.

No one was home when the fire broke out, and a neighbor phoned in a report of the fire when he saw smoke coming from the house. No injuries were reported.

Electrical power had been out in the area since the previous evening.

Bashore said the cause of the fire is under investigation but has not yet been determined.

Firefighters and EMS personnel involved in putting out the blaze came from the Woodville Volunteer Fire Department, Greene County Fire and Rescue, Union Point Fire/Rescue, and Greene County EMS.
