Deputy makes arrest after three-county chase

An Augusta woman was arrested by a Greene County deputy Feb. 1 after fleeing from Morgan County deputies into Greene and Taliaferro counties.

Nancy Dorilas, 27, is being charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and possession of marijuana (less than 1 oz.).

According to reports, Deputy Corwin was patrolling the area of Oconee Avenue, when dispatch advised that a Morgan County deputy was pursuing an Infinity Q50 with New Jersey plates into Greene County on I-20.

Corwin entered I-20 in Greensboro and caught up to the pursuit near milepost 133.

According to the report, the vehicle was traveling approximately 75 mph in the right lane.

Corwin and the Morgan County deputy continued to pursue, but the vehicle continued on Interstate 20. A spike strip was deployed near exit 130, but failed to connect.

Corwin then became the lead in the chase, but Dorilas ignored his lights and sirens.

The vehicle entered Taliaferro County and continued to flee as a Georgia State Patrol unit took over as the lead car in the pursuit, but turned off its lights and siren after a brief period out front.

A Taliaferro County deputy blocked the right lane at milepost 146, and a semi in the left lane blocked the vehicle’s path and forced it to stop.

Corwin then got out of his patrol vehicle and began giving commands to the driver to exit the vehicle, but Dorilas refused.

Corwin approached the driver’s side and attempted to open the car door.

According to the report, Dorilas rolled the window down, and Sgt. Hall was able to reach inside and unlock the door.

Dorilas was removed from the car and placed on the ground, and after a brief struggle, she was placed in handcuffs and taken to the Greene County jail.

The vehicle was turned over to Roper’s Towing.
