A Greene County jury took less than an hour to convict an Eatonton man on one count of statutory rape and one count of child molestation for the sexual abuse of a young family member after a proceeding that concluded on March 15.
Judge Terry N. Massey sentenced 43-year-old Tyrus “G-Mon” Johnson, of Union Point, to 40 years with the first 30 years to be served in prison.
When released, Johnson will be required to register as a sex offender, according to a Facebook post by the Ocmulgee Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
According to reports obtained from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement became aware of accusations against Johnson on June 9-10 of 2022.
Sgt. Hudson Bell was told when he began his investigation that the statutory rape of a 15-year-old child had been going on for two years.
Bell turned the case over to the Criminal Investigation Division and forensic interviews were conducted with the victim. Johnson was arrested by Greene County deputies on June 28, 2022.
