The City of Madison recently announced that it has been awarded one of the 2025 Health Wellness Grants by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) for $5,000.
This grant supports the city’s ongoing commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture and promoting employee health and wellness year-round. GMA is honored to collaborate with the City of Madison throughout its wellness journey.
Awards are made statewide to participating employers enrolled in one or more medical plans through the Georgia Municipal Employees Benefit Services (GMEBS) Life and Health Insurance Fund. The Health Wellness Program at GMA equips members to cultivate skills and habits that encourage overall well-being, from preventive health to stress reduction.
These initiatives have a track record of improving employee health outcomes, reducing medical claims, and enhancing workplace morale.
“The health of our employees and savings to the taxpayer through wellness initiatives is of paramount importance to me,” City Manager John Klimm said. “We are deeply appreciative of this partnership with GMA and proud of our continued investment in the well-being of those who serve our community every day.”
The City has designated Karen Robertson, Human Resources Director, to serve as the Health Wellness Champion, coordinating and overseeing the program in partnership with GMA.
Robertson shared her enthusiasm, noting that the grant will allow Madison to expand its wellness programming in meaningful and engaging ways.
Planned initiatives supported by the grant include:
• Healthy eating demonstrations and nutrition education
• Instructor-led fitness classes for employees
• An employee health fair with wellness screenings and resources
• Employee appreciation and engagement events that promote community and morale
• Mental health awareness and support activities, including stress-reduction workshops
“We’re truly honored to receive this grant and grateful to GMA for recognizing our commitment to employee wellness," Robertson said. “Our goal is to build a culture of wellness that supports and celebrates our people. When employees are healthy, engaged, and valued, they’re able to serve our community with even greater purpose and excellence.”
