PUTNAM COUNTY
The Artisans Village Art Gallery hosted The Artisans Village Guild’s BIG little Project last Thursday night, in which 56 different Guild members created and donated an original piece of art and 56 members of the public bought selection tickets for the honor of choosing one of the panels.
Selection tickets sold out in less than 48 hours, with 30 selling in the first 10 minutes on sale. The BIG little Project is a fundraiser benefiting The Artisans Village, a non-profit dedicated to increasing economic development in Lake Country through the visual arts.
Art on the 6X6-inch panels ranged from carved wood, vintage jewelry mosaic, porcelain mosaic, paper mosaic, wool weaving, reed arrangement, hammered jeweler’s brass, sculpture, and paintings using several mediums in a variety of subjects. The panels had been on display for a week for ticket purchasers to study before making their selections.
The selection process began promptly at 6 p.m. and proceeded quickly in the order in which the tickets were purchased.
The first selection revealed a letter hidden on the display under the panel and the show coordinator explained there was a surprise word game. About halfway through the selection process, Barbara Lewis of Greensboro raised her hand and correctly guessed, “Original art brings joy to the heart.” It certainly did at the BIG little Project reception.
Original art is the hallmark of The Artisans Village Art Gallery (110 W. Marion St., Eatonton). The Gallery is open Wednesday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Guild will host its next reception on May 11, at Barrel 118 (118 N. Jefferson Ave., Eatonton) for The Lake Country Juried Art Show. Visit online at theartisansvillage.org for details.
