Madison police officers and Morgan County deputies teamed up to stop a fleeing suspect who reached speeds in excess of 100 mph on Sept. 11 on Eatonton Road.
In the wake of the incident, Keven Garcia, 21, of Loganville faces charges of reckless driving, failure to obey a stop sign and speeding in excess of maximum state limits (100 mph in a 45-mph zone).
According to reports, Officer Travis Stubbs received a report at approximately 7:45 p.m. that Deputy Lee Kitchens was involved in a vehicle pursuit near milepost 118 westbound on I-20.
Stubbs positioned his patrol unit in the intersection of Eatonton Road and Exit 114 and activated his emergency lights and siren to control the intersection.
Garcia, driving a white Honda CRV left the interstate, ran the red signal, and turned south on Eatonton Road.
Stubbs joined the pursuit as a secondary unit as Garcia’s vehicle reached speeds in excess of 100 mph in the area of Pierce Dairy Road as he passed in the construction area in violation of no passing rules.
The pursuit continued down Eatonton Road, and Deputy Cameron Ptak said he would try to slow Garcia down since he would be in the area of Crawford Road ahead of the chase.
As the vehicle approached Crawford Road, Ptak became the primary pursuit unit and performed a successful PIT maneuver, sending Garcia’s vehicle off of the road to an uncontrolled rest near the wood line.
Stubbs and other deputies approached the vehicles with guns drawn, according to the report, and found Garcia seated in the vehicle.
Stubbs breached the driver’s side window with an impact tool, and Garcia was removed from the vehicle. Garcia was turned over to EMS for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash.
